Purina Pro Plan Shredded Chicken and Rice
It's a team effort!
Our typical day starts with going potty right away! Make sure to go out with your puppy and encourage then to walk around and do their business. Puppies left to do business on their own typically sit at the door wait for you and do not go potty.
We like to incorporate a hanging door bell that hangs from your doorknob. We have had a lot of success with bell training. It becomes an easy way for you to communicate with your pup that they need to go out as they get older and can ring the bell to alert you.
To start we hang the bell on the door the is used to go outside. Ring the bell every time you go out. You do this so they can associate that sound to going outside. You can also encourage the puppy to paw/scratch at the bell to alert you. Our pups do sometimes ring the bell with their mouth.
( Keep in mind this is NOT a toy)
We notice puppies typically have to go outside right after a nap. Some pups you only get a few steps out of then before they squate and pee.
Get on a routine.
When pups are awake pick an amount of time between potty break to prevent accident. Start with smaller intervals and work your way up. These could be as little as 20-30 minutes to an hour to start. If your pup has an accident decrease the amount of time between potty breaks.
When taking you pup out to go potty we like to say "go potty" we do not play or pet the puppies when it's potty time. We try to keep them focused on our goal... going potty.
If you notice you pup goes potty in their crate over night consider if the area they are sleeping in is too big or if you have items they have previously soiled. Many detergents do not completely removed the urine smell. Even if you cannot personally smell anything your pup still may. We have noticed if it was previously soiled they will likely soil it again if not properly cleaned.
When your pup does go potty outside it's time to celebrate! GET HAPPY and SUPER EXCITED it's time for lots of pets and telling them how good they are to be going potty outside!
We like to use a steam cleaner on hard surfaces along with a spray to break down the urine smell.
It's a team effort!
Please keep your puppy up and active. Of course it is so cute to watch them sleep however when night falls your puppy will be full of energy. If you wish to crate train stick to it. A puppy kept busy throughout the day with occasional naps should be ready for some sleep at night. Typically the first night home is always the most challenging. Puppies are used to their litter mates and our home.
Each pup is sent home with a blanket that smells like mom
What can you purchase to help your puppy adjust? A plush with an animal heart beat. There are a few manufactures who make them. One example is: "snuggle puppy"
It's a team effort!
Please keep your puppy up and active throughout the day with occasional naps. Keep the puppy's crate a positive space. Do not use it for punishment for best success crate training. Puppies can be encouraged to go into a crate with a few treats. Start with the door open. As your puppy gets more accustom to the crate start closing the door start by keeping the cage unlatched while your puppy is in the crate. Then progress to adding the latch. Once the crate is latched add in taking a few steps away from the crate are reward all good behavior.....lots of repetition and team work!!
In addition to using a crate when you are not home or unable to watch your puppy work on using the crate as a quiet space. They might be able to see you but learn the crate is an okay place to be. You can also consider feeding in the crate to keep the puppy focused on meal time and also reinforce good things happen when they go into the crate.
Puppies also are not very good at waiting for you to put shoes on if you do set them down so be ready before letting them out of the crate.
***watch out for double poopers**** they sometimes go... walk around a bit and go again!
Breakfast
1/2 cup purina pro plan chicken and rice puppy food
We currently add a little water on top of the food they seem to like it better. The food does not have to be soft.
After breakfast it's time to go potty again!
Playtime! Like will play 30 minutes to and hour before taking a nap
Nap time in a crate or pen would be great to get them used to how you do things in your home.
Naptime is typically 30 minutes but can be as long as a few hours
After naptime is over its time to go potty. Keep a close eye on the puppy as they are pretty quite when they first wake up. The puppy will likely only take a few steps before they go potty so be ready!
After potty time it's time to play more. If puppy is awake set a time for the first few days if needed to take me out regularly. Start with 20 minutes and work your way up in time as the days go by and you are having success not going potty inside. If accidents occur reduce the time between potty trips.
Potty time is not time for games and distractions. Puppies need to focus! If your puppy does go potty be very excited with lots of praise that they did a great job!
You will have the most success with a predictable schedule your pup can get used to get them on a good routine for potty time.
Puppies need to be fed at least 2x per day. Start with around 1/2 cup if they eat off of it within 10-15 minutes and still act hungry.....consider more We feed our adult dogs 1 to 1 1/2 cups 2x per day.
Love your puppy with love ....and not overfeeding.
Pick a time for dinner that works for you and your puppy. If they mess in their crate overnight consider feeding earlier or picking up the water bowl a little earlier before bedtime.
Your puppy will not willingly go to bed of they are not tired.
As cute as it is to hold your puppy all day and watch them sleep while you get things done. Your Puppy is recharging their batteries for more playtime!!! Keep you pups active during the day so you both can have a great night.
Not every puppy loves their crate right away. It's a team effort just like potty training.
Make your puppies crate a good / happy place for them to be.
A puppy will likely need to go potty through the night as the puppy gets older they will not need to go potty as often.
Pick your schedule on the first day and try to stay close to your schedule to develop a routine for your puppy to follow. This should help them learn how thing are done in your home.

Puppies are raised right in our home! We have the several areas set up during the day for playtime. A separate space we feed their meals. We have 3 large 5 x 10ft enclosure down stairs. We like to give the pups as much puppy safe play area as we can. We also introduce new toys often to keep them busy and learning. This area is also used to give mama her space when the pups first arrive. We use 3 different 10x10 kennels for play time outside when puppies are old enough. We like to keep different toys in the enclosure to encourage play. We typically take the puppies out in the big fenced yard a few times a day for them to explore as well.
We begin the process of potty training around 4 weeks of age. We hope to lay a good foundation for their potty training. We work hard to get you off on the right foot for potty training at home. But keep and mind it's a learning process. Please see our puppy parents section for tips on potty training!
Puppies come with an AKC LIMITED registration- for a pet/ companion. (NO Breeding rights)
Each puppy will come with a health certificate received at their 6 weeks shot appointment.
